Lady Captain's update - 20th March 2026

Following our winter match practice sessions with James and Dan, the ladies teams are looking forward to a warmer competitive season after some tough draws in the Surrey winter knock outs.

In the Derry Cup (scratch), our winter low handicap team fought hard but didn’t make it through group stage and plate round losing on points to Woodcote Park. It was a huge experience for our ladies who are playing against many ladies cc 5 shots better off scratch. We are building for the future and hopefully when we can re-enter this competition post course works when we will have some young guns leading the way!

In the Pearson Trophy (13+handicap) this season, we had competitive home and away matches vs Dulwich and Sydenham, Hoebridge and Walton Heath. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it to the knockout rounds which was very tough for our team being finalists last year in the Southern Pearson Finals. We will be back next year.

For Centenary Bowl (9+handicap) we are just about to kick off, and have been drawn to play Camberley Heath in our preliminary match to determine if we play in the main event Bowl or plate. First match 17th March (home) and 2nd April (away)

For the Hicks (scratch), we will be starting our 2026 Season with matches in April. We have been drawn to play Foxhills to determine whether we go through to the Hicks Trophy or the Hicks Plate. Matches are confirmed as 12th April (Away) and 22nd April (Home).

Despite being previous winners of the Wallis Trophy (20+ handicap), we will not be re-entering this competition again until after the works.

We will be back to update you on our teams ready for the Inter- Club scratch and handicap Foursomes, Druce and Kingswood Salver shortly, all being played in the forthcoming season.

Most of us are busy signing up for friendly matches vs other Surrey clubs on IG and our packed season of weekly competitions and now Club (mixed) Stablefords each month.

Our Get Women Golfing programme finishes on 1st April but has been incredibly successful with 24 passing through the programme and two applying for membership, one being played-in in April.

Many of our members helped get the season going at the Ladies Dinner held on Friday 27th February with Sam Smith (Wimbledon commentator) as our speaker, and which included some welcome guests from the Get Women Golfing programme.

Please congratulate Debbie Edginton on her recent appointment as President of Surrey Women’s Golf and Clare Goodberry, our Junior Girls Organiser on her election to the Surrey Juniors Committee. Also we welcome Anne Tyrrell elected as Board Director at our recent AGM and thank Kate Landor who is stepping down after six years.

Hopefully this week we have seen the end of the rain and can look forward to sunny golf days followed by those enjoyable evenings on the terrace!
